Homecoming

11 years, 6 months and 20 days later, we made our way back to the motherland - Nigeria ♥️ and it was amazing!!
My family and I went back for just over 2 weeks, we split our time over three cities in Nigeria; Abuja, Benin(Home town!) and Lagos. The trip consisted of reuniting with family and friends and being completely overwhelmed by nostalgia. Most of my conversations with my brothers and everyone we caught up with involved the phrase "Do you remember when...?" It was great having little things bringing back so many happy memories, whether it was the street we used to walk down to get to school or the shop across the road where we used to get sweets and biscuits from. It was especially lovely seeing our cousins that were our best friends growing up and reminiscing over memories and inside jokes only we could laugh at!

There were lots of driving and sight seeing. We drove two hours from our hotel in Abuja to see a rock (a very big rock mind you)!

It was a bittersweet feeling seeing the people you grew up with, all grown up and some with their own families now and just being reminded that although we moved, they've moved on with lives (hahah I didn't expect time to stand still there but its still a weird feeling). All the weird feelings aside, it was heart warming to see how everyone turned out really. Also it was refreshing to be reminded of the completely different culture to what I've become used to.
All in all, my trip home was amazing and I miss it already, the weather, the fresh food (oh I miss the taste of freshly plucked mango!), the people and just the feeling of being home. Can't wait to go back again soon! Definitely not waiting another 11 years! ❤️
